Mpumalanga offers fantastic hiking trails, and we enjoy picnics out in the beautiful nature. At the end of the day, there must be something special waiting for the kids to keep them interested. So we promised them to visit a silk farm where they could see a lot of worms.
You know little boys, slugs and snails and puppy dog tails … worms sound exciting enough!
Just outside Hazyview, turn left onto the R535 to Graskop. Travel to a T-junction and turn right towards Bushbuckridge on the R533. Travel another 12 km to the Africa Silks Farm entrance. Turn left onto a 3 km gravel road to the Africa Silks Farm. We saw thousands of beautiful butterflies in the forests surrounding the farm.
At Africa Silks you will once again be reminded of the wonders of nature. Visit Africa Silks and you will be amazed to see how the silkworm cocoons are processed into the most beautiful threads. These are then hand-woven to produce a variety of products for clothing and interior decorating.
Guided one-hour tours are offered on the farm for a minimal fee. These tours take place from Monday to Sunday. After the silk farm tour visitors can relax at the Deck Restaurant for light meals and refreshments. The ice-cold homemade gingerbeer is a winner.
